Hospitals The Eden Township Healthcare District was created to build and operate Eden Hospital in Castro Valley. In 1997, residents of the District voted to approve the hospital’s affiliation with Sutter Health, creating a unique partnership between the two organizations that continues the tradition of quality medical care in our community. The five members of the publicly-elected Board of Directors continue in their role of actively governing the operations of Eden Medical Center. In 2004, the District purchased San Leandro Hospital and leased the hospital to Eden Medical Center to operate, under a consolidated license, as an extension of the Castro Valley campus and therefore as an affiliate of Sutter Health. The members of the District Board of Directors, along with the appointed community members, make operational, financial and strategic decisions for the medical center, ensuring that health care decisions are made locally and in the best interest of our community.
